Folk art created by the Lorenzo Family in Mexico. Four generations of the family paint, hence why they are signed with different names! We buy them from the Grandson, Fernando Lorenzo. These are original paintings inspired by the tradition of retablo painting, which tell a multitude of stories. Mermaids are a mysterious subject matter, thought to originate from a mythical creature, that of bird and women, then to sea serpent, then to fish! Internationally the mermaid is seen as the goddess of the sea, a figure to lure in the fishermen but also the patroness of childbirth.
